[woc] code 2024 Introduction to Github event:

THE GITHUB BASICS, NETWORKING, AND MORE IN OUR FIRST EVENT OF THE SEASON

github workshop.png

On October 25th,  women of color code ([woc]code) hosted our first workshop, "Introduction to Github"! We walked through the basics of using GitHub, including creating repositories, managing branches, and collaborating on projects. This workshop equipped participants with essential version control skills, preparing them for collaborative coding environments, with [WoC]Coders from around the world joining us in our hybrid event space.

We had a great experience working with everyone and deeply appreciate the interest shown in [WoC]Code and Github collaboration. For those who couldn't make it, you can still take advantage of our resources, linked below.

Our next event is November 22, when we will host a career panel to help you prepare for job and internship hunting this year. There will also be activities in the future focusing on introductory programming and technological skills, so stay tuned to our Discord and email list for more!

Kick-Off.png

Although women of color code ([woc]code) started off as a virtual networking space, but is moving into 2024 with the development of in-person events! For the first time ever, we were overjoyed to host a hybrid event, with people joining from all over the world. In our first meeting of the year, [WoC]Code leader Mathi told us about her experience with the NASA Space Apps challenge, and how her two-person team made it all the way to the Global Finals!

Browse the 2023 challenges and let us know if you are interested. In the meantime, our series of learn-together workshops are designed to build the skills to contribute to hackathons like this one. For an overview of WoCCode's mission statement and values, see the introductory slides from the meeting and other resources using the links here!
